Cinema of perestroika

Perestroika has opened outstanding chapter in the history of Russian cinema. Gorbachev's democratization allowed to talk about previously forbidden topics: drug addition, prostitution, social drama, privileges of the officials.

Perestroika gave the second birth to films which were banned by the Soviet censorship. In the Soviet Union there was the concept of "placed on the shelf" movies or books. This meant that the film or the book has been banned after their birth for ideological reasons.

New movies became to be the cause of embittered discussions in Soviet society.

Movies of Perestroika are: topical, filled with eroticism and depression, but  truthful and interesting.
